Education Work
at Eine Welt Leipzig
After many years of work, we have found that sustainable changes to global problems can only be achieved if the people in the industrialized/developed countries are willing to critically question their way of life. As a result, we have been involved in development-related educational work for some time. We offer thematic educational events for all ages. We are particularly happy to support committed educators and educators who are interested in topics such as development, ecology, refugees or debt.
On the one hand, there is teaching material, books, games, video and audio cassettes as well as educational boxes (e.g. coconut box, cocoa box and spice box) in Einewelt’s library on topics related to the Third World, North-South Relationships, Ecology and Violence in our society. All of these can be viewed, borrowed and used there by teachers, students and anyone else interested.
Upon request, we offer advice or organise advanced training for teachers on the subject of “Education for sustainable development” and “North-South Relations” in class.
On the other hand, we design lessons, project day units, leisure activities for children and young people of all ages – at school, in the Connewitzer Weltladen or as a guest in leisure facilities. In the World Shop, it is also possible to highlight the “Southern countries” directly with the products and library materials offered there.
In addition, for interested students from Class 9–11 we offer the opportunity to do an internship in the world shop.
Since 2004 we have been offering the alternative city tour “Globalization in everyday life” for interested people and groups. The process of increasing globalization holds many possibilities and opportunities in itself; let’s just think about the remote parts of the world we can travel to today. However, for most people, primarily in poorer countries, economic globalization has a negative impact.
The city tour aims to illustrate the consequences of globalization and the relationship between producers and consumers by visiting contact points such as Aldi, McDonald;s, Deutsche Bank, Body Shop and the Health Food Store etc. During the tour we critically discuss and analyse the background of the production and trade of consumer goods (e.g. coffee), the living conditions of manufacturers/producers, the ecological effects of globalization, the nutritional impacts, and the topic of development aid. The tour also shows options for alternative action through concrete examples. The focus is to create awareness on conscious consumption for example, through quality products from organic farming and farming. Conscious consumption can help change the world for the better.
